BHUSD has more teachers per pupil than any other district that I have been able to identify. Almost everyone acknowledges that this is an important factor in academic achievement, and, in most cases, the attached charts bear this out, but to a lesser extent than I expected.
As set forth in my 1999 budget analysis, other districts tend to have more teaching assistants, who work under the direction of the classroom teachers. I still wonder whether we should look into such approach.
